Aston Hall in Birmingham is one of the premier stately homes situated in the West Midlands. Expressive in its architecture, the hall is well-known and highly reputed among locals. Built during the early 17th century in the popular Jacobean style of the era, it wasn’t long before Aston Hall gained historical significance when it was attacked by Parliamentarians during the English Civil War.
The hall is noted for its expansive gardens, which have served as a prime location for the filming of television programmes such as period dramas and the Antiques Roadshow. The impeccably arranged and partly symmetric gardens are down to the efforts of Birmingham Council who, during financial difficulties in the 1920s, renovated Aston Hall and its site so that it would form a strong attraction for tourists from the UK and abroad.
Today the hall is popular for events and weddings as well as for guided heritage tours which run from March till November every year. General administration is overseen by the Birmingham Museums Trust which took the reins from Birmingham City Council a few years ago.
