The Deposit Protection Service (DPS) is primarily concerned with taking on tenants’ deposits and holding them securely on behalf of landlords in England and Wales.
With the rapid expansion of the buy to let renter market in recent years, assured shorthold tenancies (ASTs) have become a fact of life for many ordinary people. Launching in 2007, the government-approved DPS provides a legal, functional service that assures both landlords and tenants that an agreed upon deposit will be kept safely and securely and released when necessary.
