Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI)

The FBI – the Federal Bureau of Investigation – is a federal law enforcement agency in the United States of America with over 100 years of history.

FBI agents

Founded in the early 20th century by a decree ordered by President Theodore Roosevelt, the FBI’s roots go back to the perception that crime across and between U.S. state borders was growing and would, as the country developed, become a major issue. The rise of organised crime in the 1920s and ’30s cemented the FBI’s presence as an important national agency.

Today the agency is the vanguard of nationwide U.S. law enforcement, featuring prominently in fictional portrayals as well as in the nation’s biggest and most notorious criminal cases.
