The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) is an organisation which attempts to regulate and, if required, investigative and enforce against wrongful operations in the finance industry.
The Authority was founded in the spirit of keeping customers informed and protected against the various deceptions many financial companies have been guilty of over the years. Among its various duties are battles against deceptive or extortionate contracts, improperly or non-advertised charges, and ensuring those examined realise the consequences of illegal behaviour.
Remaining accountable to the Treasury but funded by financial firms themselves, the FCA continues operates within the bounds of the government’s Financial Services Act, 2012.
