Qantas Airways is Australia’s largest airline and is the official flag-carrying air company for the country. With 100 years of history, Qantas presently accounts for two thirds of Australia’s domestic aviation business.
The airline’s inception in 1920 closely followed the rapid advances in avionic engineering brought during World War I. Passenger services did not begin until 1935, but after World War II grew rapidly. Now the company runs nearly 50 million passengers through over 300 aircraft, being one of the most recognised carriers in the Australasian region.
Despite a high amount of debt and a shaky performance in recent years, Qantas continues to function as an essential air carrier with an eye to modernising its services.
