The staff of Ulster Bank in one Belfast branch broke with convention earlier this year (2016) by going to work on a Bank holiday – the Donegall Square East Branch opened between 10am and 1pm, while other Ulster Bank branches across Northern Ireland remained closed.
The Ulster Bank group is made up of two separate entities: Ulster Bank Limited who trade in Northern Ireland, and Ulster Bank Ireland Limited who trade in the Republic. Together they make up the fourth largest banking entity on the island of Ireland. However, Ulster Bank, which has its headquarters in Dublin, has been owned by the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) since 2000.
